Taking Indigenous Enterprise Global: Woollahra at the WA–India Business Delegation

Woollahra is proud to celebrate an incredible milestone for our Managing Director, Chris Schmid, who recently participated in the Western Australian First Nations business delegation to India.

Spanning New Delhi and Kolkata, the mission brought together Indigenous business leaders to strengthen international partnerships and showcase the capability of Aboriginal enterprises on the global stage.

Building Global Connections

The delegation focused on deepening relationships between Australia and India across key sectors including mining, METS (Mining Equipment, Technology and Services), and renewable energy.

Throughout the visit, delegates engaged with a range of influential stakeholders, including:

  • The Australian High Commission
  • Austrade (Australian Trade and Investment Commission)
  • The Confederation of Indian Industry
  • Major organisations such as Tata Steel

These engagements created valuable opportunities to explore collaboration, share expertise, and position Indigenous businesses as key contributors to international trade.

Representing Indigenous Business on the World Stage

For Woollahra, being part of this delegation reflects the growing recognition of Indigenous-led businesses as global players.

Across a series of briefings, roundtables, and networking events, Chris and fellow delegates shared their stories, experiences, and vision for the future—demonstrating that Indigenous enterprises can lead in both innovation and impact.

The mission highlighted not only the strength of Aboriginal business in Western Australia, but also the increasing demand for partnerships grounded in sustainability, cultural understanding, and long-term value.

Culture, Collaboration and Opportunity

Beyond the formal meetings, the delegation was also an opportunity to build meaningful relationships through shared experiences—from industry roundtables to cultural exchanges and networking events.

These moments are critical in establishing trust and laying the foundations for future collaboration.

The warmth and hospitality shown by hosts and partners across India reinforced the strength of the relationship between the two regions and the opportunities that lie ahead.

Looking Ahead

As Woollahra continues to grow, opportunities like this play a vital role in expanding our reach and impact beyond Australia.

Participating in international delegations allows us to:

  • Showcase Indigenous innovation on a global platform
  • Build strategic partnerships across key industries
  • Contribute to the future of sustainable, Indigenous-led trade

At Woollahra, we are proud to be part of a new generation of Indigenous businesses—leading locally, and increasingly, globally.
