Supporting Students When It Matters Most
For many young Aboriginal students, pursuing education means leaving their home communities to attend boarding schools.
Often, they arrive with very little—sometimes with nothing more than the clothes on their back.
Murlpirrmarra Connection plays a critical role in supporting these students through this transition, ensuring they have access to the resources and support they need to succeed.
A Simple Solution with Real Impact
Through conversations with the Murlpirrmarra team, Woollahra identified a simple but important challenge—access to basic toiletries.
The organisation was purchasing essential items at retail prices to support students, creating an ongoing cost burden.
In response, Woollahra partnered with Intertrading Australia to source products at cost and donate them directly to the program.
Introducing Woollahra Travel Packs
As part of this initiative, Woollahra will now provide travel packs to every young person transitioning through Murlpirrmarra Connection.
Each pack includes:
- Toothpaste and toothbrush
- Floss and mouthwash
- Shampoo and body wash
- Deodorant
- Soap Aid recycled soap
These packs ensure that students have immediate access to essential hygiene products—supporting both their wellbeing and confidence as they begin a new chapter.
Creating Confidence and Opportunity
While these items may seem simple, their impact is significant.
By removing small but critical barriers, we are helping young people:
- Settle into new environments with confidence
- Focus on their education and future goals
- Feel supported during a major life transition
